Yes. There are about 171,000 more Republicans than Democrats registered to vote in Maricopa County ahead of this year’s general election. The number of unaffiliated voters—those not registered with a specific political party—is even higher.
This marks the first presidential election in which unaffiliated voters have outnumbered registered Republicans in Maricopa County. More than one-third of registered voters in Arizona overall are unaffiliated, giving them substantial influence in the election. Republicans remain the state’s largest voter bloc.
The last time more Democrats than Republicans were registered in Maricopa County ahead of a presidential election was in 1968.
